17.11.08: Registration is now possible again!<br>
As most of you know, Kuroguy has amassed a rather large pile of parts from old hacked linkstations (and even a terastation HS). Now is your chance to get some replacement parts for your NAS device. Kuroguy is selling off some of the spare parts in exchange for donations towards the new server. Available parts include internal power supplies that fit the Linkstations (120/240 volt), a front panel for a Terastation HS, case parts for the Linkstation Pro, cooling fans, etc. Make a Post in this thread if you are in need of a replacement part for your device.

You can now register in all forums/wikis/blogs at nas-central.org.

+
11.11.08: Back online! Sorry for the inconvenience<br>
Well the recent down time over last weekend just goes to justify the need for a stable reliable hosting solution which is only going to get worse as the community continues to grow. I know all the staff of Linkstationwiki.net are sorry for any inconvenience that the downtime caused our community it was due to situations beyond our control and help justify our reason behind the fund raising drive we are currently doing. I would like to thank everyone who has already donated to help improve this community. And I would also like to ask any other community member who has not donated to please consider making a small donation to our community. For more info about the what we are trying to do to prevent this from occurring in the future you might want to check out this thread for more info
+
After the old server crashed it was needed to completely reinstall the OS on the virtual Xen instance because there was a risk that the old rootfs was compromised. Enjoy while we are bringing all services back online. Please don`t edit this wiki as there are obviously some plugins missing. We will keep you updated.

23.5.07: LS Pro JTAG tested and confirmed working. After a few long nights and days and with the help and support of many on the IRC we have successfully revived two (2) LS Pro bricks. We have also confirmed that a full flash to a blank flash chip is possible. The process has been chronicled here. Our next step is to get the working version of OpenOCD and a process on how to use it out to the masses.<br><br>Many thanks to Kuroguy, Drath, Peteheff, and Jonli447 for making this all possible.

9.5.07: Kuroguy has determined the pinout for JTAG on the LS Pro. Kuroguy used a torch to remove the SOC from one of his dead LS Pros and from a damaged Kuro pro and then followed the traces with a continuity tester. The results are that we now know the pin descriptions for the JTAG port on the LS Pro. Mdfirefighter installed the JTAG header in his LS Pro and was able to detect the chain. 27.3.07: Donations needed: With the release of several new hardware types and new development ongoing on the LS2 we have worked our way through almost all the funds in the treasury. The last purchase of 10 JTAG adapters (to be distributed with development boxes) put the treasury at less than $5 euros. Work is ongoing on the LS Pro kernel and hardware modifications as well as a kernel for the LS2. In fact, we have made great progress with the LS2 and it is only a matter of time before we release something. If you have benefited from this wiki and the work the developers do, please show your appreciation/support with a donation. If you have already donated, thanks for the support.

1.9.2006: JTAG and LS2?<br>

Currently we have a discussion in the forums about developing a compatible JTAG cable for the LS2. tampakuro has offered to look what he can do to modify his current cable (which works with all ppc-boxes) to make it compatible. He of course has no LS2. The question is how we can provide him a development box temporary. Either buy one via donations or someone lends him one. Development on the LS2 is highly coupled to the presence of compatible JTAG cables.<br> Problem: the box could be bricked completely.<br>Please read through this forum thread and post your opinion

Revolution Bails on Contest
+
It's official. We've given up on trying to get a response from the organizer of the Kurobox Contests. John Causey hasn't responded to multiple voice messages, emails, and even a message through one of his employees; although, he did respond to an email regarding a Kurobox order. More than 8 weeks without a response from anybody at Revolution. What can I say except that Buffalo Linkstation products are almost identical hardware and come with a 250 GB drive for not much more than a Kurobox without the drive and once flashed with a telnet enabled firmware, are indistinguishable from a Kurobox save for the color of the case.
+

+
Revolution Missing in Action?
+
Or is that inaction? We haven't heard from anyone at Revolution since the last contest closed on November 20, 2006. Not only have no results been posted for the contest, but Linuxnotincluded has not received his Terastation Pro which was offered up by Revolution for winning the U-Boot bounty. Could it be that with Buffalo moving to the ARM based devices for their Linkstation Pro and Terastation Pro (and discontinuing most of the PPC based devices that Buffalo now has no need for Revolution?

Linkstation U-Boot port working on Kuro HG
+
Linuxnotincluded has done it again. This time he has ported U-Boot to the Kurobox HG. In fact, the same patch works with the Kurobox and Kurobox HG. This port works very well. It includes full network support and a minimal console that is controlled using the power and red buttons on the Kuro. It should also come as no surprise that this port has been submitted for the U-Boot bounty. Sylver, Timtim, and I (Dave) have been testing this port on both standard and HG versions of the Kuro Box and it has worked flawlessly. Head on over to the instruction page and give it a shot.

+
Linkstation U-Boot port working on Kuro Standard
+
I've been testing the latest port of u-boot which includes network support on my Kuro Standard. I've tested everything but the network and so far it all works. Check out the discussion at the Linkstation Forums for more information. Watch this topic closely. Although it doesn't yet work with the Kuro HG, a port to the HG would likely win the bounty as it contains network support. Even better is that the author is working on a port for the Linkstation HD-HGLAN which he believes will work on the Kuro HG.

Not very often I get post from there, after I opened it it was a nice thank you card from OSUOSL thanking us for our last donation. OSUOSL provide us with rack space and pay for our bandwidth, so this is the least we can do to thank them for helping us.

Thank you OSUOSL! Here is the card:

More Site Maintenance

Fri, 29 Jul 2011 20:30:01

This weekend we will be removing the following wikis due to lack of usage:

 • D-Link
 • Freecom
 • Linksys
 • Maxtor
 • Synology
In the future articles for manufacturers that do not have their own specific wiki will go in the main portal. When we have enough articles to justify a wiki for a manufacturer then we will create one and move the articles over.

In addition we will most likely be doing some updates to the rest of the wikis this weekend to bring them up to the latest version of MediaWiki. Also we are slowly fixing the links back to the new main portal – this work is on-going but coming together.

Site Updates

Sun, 24 Jul 2011 14:56:57

Today we updated all the forums to the latest version of phpBB and following this we upgraded the nas-central blog. Also we fixed an issue with news reporting to the wikis from the blog.

You may have noticed that we have changed the main portal back to a wiki too as this is useful for general articles that are not device specific. There is still some more content to restore to this area and a bunch of links that need fixing that link there from the other wikis – please bear with us while this happens.

Tonight also we will be looking at upgrading the bug tracker and possibly merging the foonas bug tracker into this area.

Thanks!

Donation Drive Update – Server Disks Needed!

Tue, 14 Sep 2010 21:43:05

We are looking to upgrade our storage on our server with a couple of 2 TB disks. To do this we need to raise approximately $550 USD. We will be using what is currently in the reserve towards this but we need your help getting the rest.

We are advert free and do our best to provide you with this resource thanks to your kind donations. Three years ago you helped us buy a new server, which is now hosted for free at OSUOSL – this is the first new server hardware we have needed since then.

We hope this will be easy to achieve if everyone can give a little!

Please visit http://www.nas-central.org/donations – thank you for your help.

In the next post we will be letting you know a bit more about the NAS-Central infrastructure at OSUOSL.
