This is an article to try and give guidance on how to performance tune the PPC based series of TeraStations.

The models covered are those based on the PowerPC (PPC) based processor which includes the following models:

  • Terastation (original)
  • TeraStation Home Server
  • TeraStation Pro

It is not known if the same guidance would also apply to the newer ARM based models (TeraStation Live and TeraStation Pro II)

Performance can be affected by many factors, and it can be quite hard to determine which are the key ones in any particular case. Areas to be covered include:

  • Network
  • Samba
  • USB
  • Disk
  • Kernel
